Ceramic design courses are available at both the undergraduate and post-graduate levels in India. The curriculum of any Ceramic design course focuses on offering a complete understanding of colour, composition, ergonomics, and the key materials.

About Industrial Design in Ceramic Engineering

Since ancient times, ceramic art has been associated with notable artwork and human existence. Ceramics are manufactured by combining clay, powders, water, and earthy elements, then moulding them into various shapes. Ceramics Design's popularity has only grown and evolved, taking on many different shapes. Ceramic design is believed to never go out of style because ceramic objects or art may be found in at least one room of any home.

What is Industrial Design in Ceramic Engineering?

Ceramic design courses are available at both the undergraduate and post-graduate levels in India. The curriculum of any Ceramic design course focuses on offering a complete understanding of colour, composition, ergonomics, and the key materials. Students will gain exposure to the craft sector, studio-based practise, and the ceramic and glass industries as part of this programme. They will raise understanding of a wider range of manufacturing techniques and a diverse range of work situations and cultures. With the ceramic and glass materials, they will learn basic skills, talent, and conceptual thinking. Students will learn about material technology in several industries that produce dinnerware, tiles, and sanitary ware, among other things. They will be taught how to explore and experiment with the medium in a unique way. Design fundamentals, such as form, colour, structure, space, and light, will be discussed to improve students' sensibility and sensitivity toward aesthetic and functional design to develop a deeper understanding of current local-global concerns and the ever-changing social fabric. Demonstrations of design interventions for emergent contexts will be presented. Major courses for this engineering include nano-ceramics, engineering mathematics, advanced techniques for materials characterization, advanced glass technology, ceramic materials and applications, bioceramics, electronic ceramics, and many more. Basic ceramic practices, ceramic processes, Ceramic Phase Diagrams and Phase Transformations are also some of the major subjects covered in this field.

Eligibility and Career in Industrial Design in Ceramic Engineering

To do ceramic design as an undergraduate program, the student must have passed 10+2 examinations with a minimum of 50-60% from a reputed education board. Pursuing a post-graduate course in the same engineering field and under graduation from a well-reputed university is necessary. With a degree in ceramic design, one can work for significant companies such as Natalie Weinberger Ceramics, Satyam Gartex, and others, or go it alone. In India, ceramic design is mostly limited to home décor items. After graduating from this field of engineering, the person working in the industry will be in charge of deciding on decorative techniques and working on a design brief that includes earthenware, porcelain, and bone china, among other materials. Working as a freelancer can earn you more money than full-time salaried ceramic designers. Major companies that hire ceramic designers include art-n-Glass, Rain & Peacock etc. The job roles given to such designers include Ceramic and Glass designers, Ceramicists, Ceramic artists etc.
