Polymer Technology Engineering is associated with the applications of chemical engineering and caters to the industrial production of polymers. The course deals with the synthesis, process and design of Polymer materials like plastic, rubber latex and its composites. Polymer Technology is opening many ways for its students to get into a rewarding job or associate with the research and development activities happening in the field.

Polymer Technology

The course gives knowledge into the production process of plastics and other polymers as well. The program used the principles of chemical engineering and plant design, process design, thermodynamics, and transport phenomena to cater to the development of new products. In simple terms, the course deals with the design and modification of polymer materials which are used in industrial purposes and personal uses as well.

Students who choose this course must have creative skills, ability to help in the development of new products and in devising the use of basic products. Good communication skills and analytical skills are also required to excel in this program. Some of the important topics which are included in the course are organic chemistry and technology, materials engineering, mould manufacturing engineering, physical chemistry of polymers, rubber technology, polymer reaction engineering, mould and die design, plastic processing, polymer blends and alloys etc.

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Belgaum, ITER Bhubaneswar, Siliguri Institute of Technology, Sriram Engineering College are some of the reputed institutes in India offering Polymer Technology Engineering course.

How to Join

One who wants to join Signal Processing should pass the qualifying examination with an aggregate score of 60-75% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After completing the same, the student has to appear for the Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE - Main) to get admission into one of the top colleges or universities in India.

Most of the engineering colleges in India offer admission to students based on the JEE Main examination. It is a national level entrance examination done by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is the national level apex authority responsible for the regulation and control of all engineering colleges and courses available in India. AICTE is the statutory authority responsible for proper planning and coordination on the development of the technical education system in India.

Career Prospects

Top recruiting industries of Polymer Technology graduates are polymer corporations of States, petrochemical engineering plants, oil and natural gas commission, petroleum and natural gas ministry, Oil India laboratories etc. Polymer Technology graduates are being hired to various firms as production engineers, polymer technologist, research associates, marketing executives, application development engineers etc.
