Electrical and Computer Engineering is about combining the features of electronics and computer engineering to meet the needs of the modern world.

ABOUT ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING

Everything that we depend on in the modern world has some electrical component and relies on electricity to work. From microwaves that heat our food to computer games, we play to mobile phones for our convenience. Electrical engineers use electricity and light energy to create, produce, design, and operate electrical products and systems. A large number of research prospects are available in various areas related to this course, such as communications, system control, medical engineering, electronics, and energy-efficient systems.

Students who are engaged in this course enjoy a wide degree of demand and prosperity in various industries. With the latest technological innovations, many such opportunities have come up for engineers in electronics and computing. These engineers can be employed in private and public firms to design, produce, and maintain electronic equipment and systems. These can be further used in IT, Telecommunication, Consumer Electronics, Mobile Communication and medical engineering.

WHAT IS ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING?

This course is about combining the features of electronics and computer engineering to meet the needs of the modern world. These two courses are top-rated among engineering students. So a combination of these will supposedly give students a lot of leverage in their coming professional days. For a student to pursue this field, he must have an innovative mindset and an interest in using maths and science to solve real-world issues. Students also must make optimum use of technologies to solve problems.

This course will equip students with various skills like time management, communication, critical thinking, aptitude for maths, IT skills etc. Coding and Programming- Students will be exposed to basic knowledge of programming and coding, which is essential for computer engineers. Still, since not all businesses use the same language, students will also learn various languages. SDLC – Software Development Life Cycle is a business practice framework when one is building software applications. Understanding this is a key to create and provide high-quality work on time that will answer the client’s expectations. Networking- This is crucial as computer engineering projects require a lot of variation in network connectivity, whether creating a website or programming services. We expect this to help in a student's future growth.

The curriculum for this course will include technical communication, single variable calculus, matrix algebra, mechanical engineering for the first semester. The next semester will consist of multivariable calculus, computer programming, digital electronics etc. The following two semesters will include mathematics, machines, network engineering, microcircuits, signals, control systems, data structures etc. After two years of study, the following semesters will teach about power transmission, energy systems, hydraulic equipment, database systems, computer networks etc. Finally, students will be taught about machine design, theory of computation, electrical systems, web security etc.

ELIGIBILITY AND CAREER IN ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING

Students who take the Undergraduate course must have cleared class 12 with minimum marks in aggregate with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as core subjects. For those in Post Graduate courses, students must have a B.Tech degree in electronics and computer engineering and clear entrance tests with good scores.

The jobs applicable to students are electrical technician, Electrical Engineer, Computer Support Specialist, Automation Analyst, Network Engineer etc. The top recruiters in this field are Mahindra & Mahindra, BSNL, HCL Technologies, Samsung, Intel, Tech Mahindra etc.
