Avionics Engineering course is a subset degree of the Aeronautical Engineering course. It is aimed primarily at training students in the fundamentals of Electrical and Electronic systems. This is in order to allow them to specialize in Aviation Electronics (Avionics).

Avionics Engineering

Considered to be an integral part of Aeronautical Engineering, Avionics Engineering has been launched as its own B. Tech programme in the recent past, and is one of the fastest developing streams in the industry. It involves a study of electronics, aviation and electrical systems.

Alongside the core subject courses in Electronics and Computer Systems, the degree usually also involves sub-papers in Aerospace Systems, Economics, Management and Basic Sciences. This increases the scope of the course significantly.

The course in institutions such as IIST consists of a full-time course with multiple internal assessments throughout the year. The eight semesters each cover different aspects, with the first two semesters concentrating on establishing the basics.

How to Join

One who wants to join Applied Geology should pass the qualifying examination with an aggregate score of 55% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After completing the same, the student has to appear for the Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE - Main) to get admission into one of the top colleges or universities in India.

Most of the engineering colleges in India offer admission to students based on the JEE Main examination. It is a national level entrance examination done by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is the national level apex authority responsible for the regulation and control of all engineering colleges and courses available in India. AICTE is the statutory authority responsible for proper planning and coordination on the development of the technical education system in India.

Career Prospects

With a degree in Avionics Engineering, a number of career prospects are available, all boasting of lucrative options. While usually starting out at an early salary of around 30,000 monthly, this may grow exponentially with increased experience and qualifications. Possible employers include the Helicopter Corporation of India and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.
