Food Safety and Quality Management engineer is designed to facilitate the students to learn about production options equipment’s and quality assurance practices to be followed in food industries and help students apply the basic food chemistry knowledge in food safety aspects. This stream also provides students with knowledge of understanding of chemical function, properties of major food components, chemical interaction of food components and their effects on sensory and nutritional quality, functional property, the safety of foods, the chemical basis of food preservation and the impact of processing and storage on food quality.

This course is designed to impart high-quality education and training to its students to make them world-class engineers. This field provides students with an admission environment aware of excellent leadership and ethical codes and guidelines and the lifelong learning needed for a prosperous professional career.

What is Food Safety and Quality Management Engineering?

Food safety and quality management engineering deals with the fundamental theoretical concept and food safety systems technical knowledge for identifying food safety problems and giving solutions and building confidence among the students to handle the food safety project in this sector. The instructional objective of this course is to make the students to will get more exposure and awareness on food safety systems in industries so that they can quickly identify the source of food standards regulations and specifications prescribed by different certificate bodies and also train the students to make them implement robust control system through various techniques.

This course covers major topics like advanced food chemistry, food microbiology and microbial techniques, food toxicology, food safety and quality auditing, food laws and legislation, processing plant safety, Public Health, total quality management of food Industries, Food Industry-standard by-product utilisation, optimisation of chemical processes and advanced Statistical Techniques.

The main objective of this course is to make the students understand about optimising the processing methods for the production of food products by implementing good manufacturing practices and quality assurance schemes and also make students gain knowledge in advance instrumentation for the Quality Assurance field along with this make the student be familiar with the different methods of Investigation used in the analysis of foods and biochemical assay and make them gain knowledge about additional instrumentation using in food analysis by knowing with the help of principle and application of various techniques used in food and nutrition research.

Eligibility and Career in Food Safety and Quality Management Engineering

The admission policy and procedure shall be decided from time to time by the institute's board of management following guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education department, Government of India. The Board of Management will decide the number of seats in each branch of the engineering program as the derivatives from educational departments of the Consent States of India. Some centres of non-residents Indians and a few centres for foreign nationals shall be made available.

When applying for admission, the candidate should have passed /appeared and be awaiting the final examination of the 10 + 2 system or its equivalent with mathematics and chemistry as subjects of studies. The selected candidates will be admitted to the undergraduate programme after fulfilling all the institute's admission requirements and paying prescribed fees. In all matters relating to admission to the undergraduate engineering program, the decision of the institute and its interpretation is given by the chancellor of the institute shall be final.

The duration of the program will be a minimum of four years, along with eight semesters. Every branch of the Bachelor of Engineering program will have a curriculum and syllables for the courses approved by the Academic Council.
