Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering is basically the compilation of two major engineering fields, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. The course is mainly focused on the communications part with more intake on the knowledge of the electronics field. Electronics and Telecommunications come under the main branch of Electronics Engineering. This field of engineering was called Radio Engineering before the introduction of modern telecommunication technologies.

Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering

It is considered as one of the emerging fields of engineering with more and more students opting for the course each year. The course makes the students expert in computer architecture and microprocessors, VLSI and embedded systems, electromagnetic field theory, analogue and digital communication, digital signal processing, microwave and broadband communications.

Students who are interested in Mathematics and Physics are the best suit for this course. The course required in-depth knowledge of Mathematics and basic science, which is mandatory to ease the training and analytical ability. Candidates who are having an interest in designing systems,  tools and applications in electronics, communication and allied engineering domains.

National Institute of Technology, Raipur, Amity University, Manipal Institute of Technology, Institute of Aeronautical Engineering, Telangana, Army Institute of Technology, Pune, etc. are some of the top engineering colleges in India offering Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering courses.

How to Join

One who wants to join Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering should pass the qualifying examination with an aggregate score of 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After completing the same, the student has to appear for the Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE - Main) to get admission into one of the top colleges or universities in India. Most of the engineering colleges in India offer admission to students based on the JEE Main examination. It is a national level entrance examination done by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is the national level apex authority responsible for the regulation and control of all engineering colleges and courses available in India. AICTE is the statutory authority responsible for proper planning and coordination on the development of the technical education system in India.

Career Prospects of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineers

A candidate who has successfully completed the course can find job opportunities in consumer electronics, electronics manufacturing units, telecommunications and IT industries, internet technologies, steel, petroleum and chemical industries. Professionals are hired to modern multimedia service firms involved in the real-time transfer of information through internet broadcasting.

Students also have the option to pursue further studies and specialise in a wide variety of subjects and can earn a more rewarding career in India and abroad as well. Being one of the most advanced disciplines of engineering, career opportunities are increasing in manufacturing and service organisations around the world.
