Information systems are the software and hardware platforms that support data-intensive applications. The information system includes the design and implementation of languages, data models, process models, algorithms, software, and hardware for information systems. Students interested in computer science, business, or information technology who want to explore the fascinating possibilities emerging where these areas intersect might choose an Information Systems (IS) degree. What is Information System?

Information Systems is concerned with the efficient design, distribution, and application of information and communication technologies to solve problems for businesses, governments, and society. It's also about recognising and quantifying the effects of these technologies on people and communities so that they can be used ethically. An Information Systems Core provides the technology, project management, and business-facing skills needed to design and build effective real-world systems solutions and a broad grounding in humanities and social sciences to promote self-directed learning, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary problem-solving. The Information Systems Breadth focuses on professional communications, quantitative analysis, and how technology works in society. At the same time, the Information Systems Concentration provides you with the flexibility and agency to build expertise in a supporting area and carve out your niche in the field. Data management issues presented at major international database conferences (e.g., ACM SIGMOD/PODS, VLDB, ICDE, and ICDT/EDBT), as well as data-related issues from the fields of data mining/machine learning, information retrieval coordinated with structured data, internet and management of cloud data, business process management, web semantics, and visual and audio informatics, are among the subject areas covered in this course.

Eligibility and Career in Information Systems

Most institutes require a score of at least 55 per cent (relaxable for reserved category applicants) at the 10+2 or equivalent level as a minimum eligibility criterion for admission in an information system. For master's degrees, different colleges have varying requirements for admittance to this specialised programme. The bulk of businesses are reliant on IT design, implementation, and administration.
