ABOUT INDUSTRIAL REFRIGERATION AND CRYOGENICS

Industrial refrigeration and cryogenics is a branch of engineering and science that focuses on providing the fundamental knowledge needed to understand the technology of producing low temperatures, i.e. refrigeration and cryogenics. It helps address the challenges that emerge during the refrigeration, absorption, and liquefaction process from the engineering and technological perspective. These days, refrigeration and cryogenics are an essential part of the chemical and processing industries that helps in improving the quality, efficiency, precision, and standard of many manufacturing processes. Therefore, refrigeration and cryogenics find so many applications that are indispensable for humankind and without refrigeration and cryogenics, the basic fabric of society will be adversely affected.

WHAT IS INDUSTRIAL REFRIGERATION AND CRYOGENICS?

Engineering in the Industrial Refrigeration and cryogenics sector is a full-time two-year master's degree program approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. This course is designed to meet the requirements of the national economy for general refrigeration and cryogenic technological professionals. This sector enables students to research highly advantageous cryogenic thermal insulation techniques and cryogenic storage vessels for the Ministry of Chemical Industry and other government organizations. The main objective of this course is to impart the information of applications of refrigeration and cryogenics in the industry of food preservation, processing and distribution, chemical and processing industry, and many other sectors such as textiles, manufacturing, printing, etc. Students are taught various topics such as advanced thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, refrigeration machinery and components, measurements in thermal engineering, and computational fluid dynamics with applied mathematics. This course enhances the information related to refrigeration and cryogenics science that helps students prudently analyze and evaluate the knowledge for its advancement. Therefore, students will be able to research complex problems related to refrigeration and cryogenics engineering. After completing this program, students will be able to use different tools and tactics to handle various Refrigeration and Cryogenic Engineering issues. It helps in creating trained professionals in this domain who can scrutinize and design activities for sustainable development.

ELIGIBILITY AND CAREER IN INDUSTRIAL REFRIGERATION AND CRYOGENICS

As broached earlier, engineering in industrial refrigeration and cryogenics is a full-time post-graduation course of two years. Some criteria need to be fulfilled by the aspiring candidate, such as having passed a graduation degree with a minimum of 60% marks. Candidates must have completed their graduation in Mechanical stream / Automobile sector / Production mechanics/ Production/ Production cum Plant/ Industrial/Aerospace/ Mechatronics /Aeronautical Eng. Other qualifications in the relevant sector, approved by the AICTE/UGC approved Deemed Universities in India. Final year students can also apply for the course. Candidates who have enrolled for the AMIE/ AMIETE examinations should have a valid GATE score and a minimum of 55% marks for section B in the AMIE/ AMIETE examinations. After successful completion of degree job, aspiring candidates can seek opportunities in several sectors such as space research and aerospace expeditions, defence research, metallurgical industries, and the biomedical field. Some of the prestigious organizations of India, such as NASA, ISRO, and VSSC, also recruit skilled industrial refrigeration and cryogenics engineers. Many institutions provide an opportunity to work with them in the research field.
