Petrochemical Engineering is a four-year undergraduate course that deals with the aspects such as the production and refining of natural gases, petroleum and crude oils.

Petrochemical Engineering

Petrochemical Engineering is a specialized branch of chemical engineering which deals with the operations of refining and petrochemical technology. In this course, students are trained to develop processes and systems that yield innovative products.

Petrochemical Engineering field is involved in deriving derivatives like methanol, lubricating oils, butane, benzene etc. from petrol. It also trains students on how to break down petroleum into their base components and how to reconstruct them back into products such as plastics, fuel, polymers, fibres, synthetic rubber etc. Candidates with a keen interest in petroleum technology can opt for this course.

Some of the subjects or topics covered in the syllabus are basic civil engineering, basic electrical and electronics engineering, branch-specific programming and software, fluid flow operation, petroleum geology and exploration, a heat transfer operation, petrochemical process, pe
Petroleum and petroleum products, chemistry of petroleum hydrocarbon, heat transfer equipment design, a mass transfer operation, plant utilities and safety, modelling and simulation, advanced petroleum refining and simulation of chemical operations & processes.

Career Opportunities

Successful graduates can find employment in the areas such as chemical plants, mineral-based industries, oil companies, pharmaceuticals, equipment supplier companies, oil exploration companies, service companies, petrochemical engineering consultancies, petrochemical plants, oil field services, petroleum refining plants, educational institutions etc.
