Production is the backbone of every industry, and production management is a crucial factor in any manufacturing or production firm. It helps to control the costs, maintain the quality and improve production. Production is not a simple task as it can run into obstacles and many problems. Only skilled Production Engineers can manage the entire production process and find solutions to the possible problems that may face.

Production Engineering is a discipline in engineering that links science with manufacturing technology together. The course details the skills and concepts in the creation of integrated designs to manage a production front.

Production Engineering

Students who opt for this course are provided with deeper insight into the processes in production, designing and methods to resolve the shortcomings to provide satisfactory service to the customers in a cost-effective manner. Production engineering includes the use and management of complex integrated design and systems post the advent of sophisticated tools for production and control systems.

The students are provided with a better understanding of the basic fundamentals of science including designing, control and improving the integrated system to provide the public with high-quality products in a timely manner. Alongside the students are taught with necessary computer skills, communication skills, documenting and designing to improve the production methodology.

Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, B.R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad, etc. are some of the top engineering institutes in India offering Production Engineering courses.

How to Join

One who wants to join Production Engineering should pass the qualifying examination with an aggregate score of 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After completing the same, the student has to appear for the Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE - Main) to get admission into one of the top colleges or universities in India.

Most of the engineering colleges in India offer admission to students based on the JEE Main examination. It is a national level entrance examination done by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is the national level apex authority responsible for the regulation and control of all engineering colleges and courses available in India. AICTE is the statutory authority responsible for proper planning and coordination on the development of the technical education system in India.

Career Prospects of Production Engineers

Since production is happening in almost every industry, there are enormous job options are available for well-qualified Production Engineers in India and abroad. Active participation and expertise of production engineers are required in every stage of production, from the processing of raw materials and to final produced goods. Job opportunities for Production Engineers are open in both the private and public sectors.

Automobile, food processing, IT companies, construction industries, refining industries are some of the leading sectors that are using the expertise of production engineers. Apart from managing the production section, these engineers are required to handle the development and management of new production processes, assemble and handling. Experience is an important thing that matters in finding a reputed job in this field.
