It is a growing field with tremendous growth in advanced telecommunication technologies such as wireless networks and direct broadcast satellites used in mobile network towers, television, and radio for broadcasting. Due to recent advancements in the communication sector, microwave engineering has become a vast sector. It includes almost everything from transmitting or receiving satellites to mobiles, televisions, radio, Wi-Fi, and other devices that work under microwave signal frequencies.

What is Microwave and Communication Engineering?

Engineering in microwave and communication is a master's degree program that provides knowledge and skills to engineers in microwave engineering and related domain of the communication sector. The main objective of this course is to develop well-trained, globally accepted technologists capable of handling cutting-edge technologies with social commitments for the up-gradation of humanity. Additionally, this course is designed to develop an ability to measure and analyze the radiated emissions and evaluate the impact of ESD, E.M.P., and E.M.I. mitigation techniques. It is a comprehensive course that emphasizes both theory and practical aspects of microwave and communication engineering. Students are taught various topics related to the field, such as electromagnetic engineering, microwave circuits and system, antennae theory, satellite communication, remote sensing, with analytical and computational techniques in electromagnetics. In the last semester, students also undergo a thesis or dissertation work where they learn the real-time application of theoretical concepts.

Eligibility and Career in Microwave and Communication Engineering

As broached above, engineering in microwave and communication is a full-time post-graduation program of two years approved by the All India Council of Technical Education (A.I.C.T.E.), New Delhi. To pursue this course, students must fulfil some criteria, such as completing their bachelor's program with at least 60% marks in relevant fields. Students should have a qualified GATE with a valid score to take admission to prestigious universities in India. After successful completion of the course, candidates may be employed in various sectors such as Academic Institutions, Research & Development Areas, Posts and Telegraph Departments, Hardware Manufacturing Companies, Defense Sector, Indian Telephone Industries, A.I.R., Power Sector, Indian Railways, Bharat Electronics Limited, Telecommunication Companies, D.R.D.O., Home Appliance and VLSI Design, Television Industry and many more.
