None

Nuclear Engineering offers the students with deep insight into concepts like uses of nuclear fusion, construction, requirements design, design processing, management of nuclear reactors and invention of nuclear materials. In general, nuclear engineering specialize the students in the design, planning and operation of nuclear reactors so that they will be capable of determining the radiation and radioactive materials to be used for industrial, scientific and medical purposes.

Nuclear Engineering

The course includes the study of fissile materials and fission systems, fusion interaction and maintenance of nuclear fission systems, nuclear power plants, nuclear reactors, and nuclear war weapons, nuclear fusion, medical applications, nuclear safety, radiation, nuclear proliferation, management of heat & thermodynamics transport, nuclear waste disposal, nuclear proliferation, collection of nuclear fuel, and the effects of radioactivity on the environment.

The course is designed to offer the students a deep understanding on the various aspects of atomic energy with a focus on nuclear engineering, reactor operation, nuclear plant design, nuclear waste management and the radiological applications of Nuclear Science.

How to Join

One who wants to join Nuclear Engineering should pass the qualifying examination in specific undergraduate engineering courses with an aggregate score of 60%. Graduate Aptitude Test (GATE) is the national level entrance examination for admission to postgraduate courses by the IITs and IISc in India. Admission to these institutions is offered based on the score secured in GATE by the candidate.

Students who are looking forward to joining the course are supposed to qualify the GATE followed by the round of counselling and based on performance, they are admitted.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is the national level apex authority responsible for the regulation and control of all engineering colleges and courses available in India. AICTE is the statutory authority responsible for proper planning and coordination on the development of the technical education system in India.

Career Prospects

Nuclear engineers get hired to laboratories, nuclear fusions, nuclear plants, universities, colleges and government agencies. They are also hired for military and nuclear research as well. There are career opportunities for nuclear engineering in the medical sector also. They are hired to engage in scientific research for medical diagnoses and treatment using radiation.
