Data Science or Data Science Engineering is an interdisciplinary branch that makes use of scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract information and insights from available structural and nonstructural data. Simply, it is related to data mining and big data.

Data Science has evolved to become one of the most sought after engineering disciplines among others. It provides one of the most promising and in-demand career paths for well qualified skilled professionals.

Data Science

Data Science equips the students to identify relevant questions, gather information from different data sources, organize and translate it into solutions and communicate in a way to make changes to the business world. Nowadays, Data Science is being used in almost all industries for feasibility studies, to predict an outcome and many others. The students are required to develop a stronghold in statistics, linear algebra as well as programming knowledge to process the data and build custom algorithms for it.

How to Join

One who wants to join Data Science Engineering should pass the qualifying examination with an aggregate score of 60-75% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After completing the same, the student has to appear for the Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE - Main) to get admission into one of the top colleges or universities in India.

Most of the engineering colleges in India offer admission to students based on the JEE Main examination. It is a national level entrance examination done by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is the national level apex authority responsible for the regulation and control of all engineering colleges and courses available in India. AICTE is the statutory authority responsible for proper planning and coordination on the development of the technical education system in India.

Career Prospects of Data Science Engineers

Data scientists or data engineers have become an integral part of many organisations around the world. As technology is advancing, more data has become accessible and now every organisation is processing those to plan their business needs. Therefore, we see no sign of slowing down in the need for qualified data scientists in the coming years. They are rewarded with competitive salaries for their highly technical skillset.

If you are one among having the appropriate expertise and skill set, then there are plenty of opportunities for you to get into the most forward-thinking companies in the world. Various companies have even announced their need for qualified data scientists as most in demand. They are expected to work result-oriented, with some industry-specific knowledge and good communication skills to pass on highly technical results to their non-technical counterparts.
