Food Science and Technology discipline, such as studying the nutritive values of food and its chemical composition, studying the microbiology of food and food products, as food technologist explore and understand food in its raw form. Food Technologists are also called Food Technocrats or Food Scientists.

These applications are essentially relevant in the realm of food production, maintaining food services, and food processing and preservation, aimed at transforming the economic and cultural structure of developing nations across the globe.

How to Join

One who wants to join Food Science and Technology should pass the qualifying examination with an aggregate score of 55% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. After completing the same, the student has to appear for the Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE - Main) to get admission into one of the top colleges or universities in India.

Most of the engineering colleges in India offer admission to students based on the JEE Main examination. It is a national level entrance examination done by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India.

Graduate Aptitude Test (GATE) is the national level entrance examination for admission to postgraduate courses by the IITs and IISc in India. Admission to these institutions is offered based on the score secured in GATE by the candidate.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is the national level apex authority responsible for the regulation and control of all engineering colleges and courses available in India. AICTE is the statutory authority responsible for proper planning and coordination on the development of the technical education system in India.

Career Prospects

Lucrative career opportunities are available for such graduates in both government private sectors, such as the Department of Food and Public Distribution, and other State-sponsored food processing plants, and private food production firms, processing plants, storage and preservation firms, firms manufacturing food processing equipment and machinery.
