About Marine Engineering & Systems (Artificer Training)

Marine engineering and systems is a branch of engineering that deals with the machinery related to the marine. In other words, it deals with the operations and construction of ships, docks, harbors, etc.

What is Marine Engineering & Systems (Artificer Training)?

Marine engineers design and build the machines that are used in the sea or the ocean. They vary from ships to devices that are used in seaports. To create those structures, one must know about the seawater, its corrosion to the metal, prevent decay, get a perfect streamline for ships, etc. And this program helps one learn that. There are four undergraduate programs named B.E in marine engineering, B.Tech in marine engineering, B.E in mechanical engineering, and B.Tech in mechanical engineering, which's duration is four years. And the postgraduates programs which a duration are M.E in marine engineering, M.Tech in marine engineering, M.E in mechanical engineering, and  M.Tech in mechanical engineering. It is not any marine engineering program, but it is an artificer training program. It means that armed forces train the candidates for armed forces. And there will be special training for that too. And it is recognized by the Ministry of Human Resource Development as a diploma.

Eligibility and Career in Marine Engineering & Systems (Artificer Training)

To be eligible for the program, the candidates should qualify for all of the following criteria. Candidates should pass the 10+2 examination with the mathematics and physics of the course. One of these courses is chemistry/ biology/ computer science with at least a 60% aggregate mark from a state/central government recognized board. And they should be in the age group of 17-20 years. Should be unmarried and only males can apply. And they should be Indian citizens or Gorkha subjects of Nepal. Their syllabus includes Basic Science, Mathematics, English, and General Awareness.

For direct entry, they should pass the 3-year diploma with a minimum 50% mark in mechanical/electrical/electronics diploma or instrumentation engineering/ telecommunication, aeronautical shipbuilding, and architecture from a government-approved institution.

They should also pass the physical standards required by the NAVY, such as height, weight, health, etc. The minimum size is 157 cm (with a relaxation of 5 cm, i.e., 152 cm), weight by one's height, minimum chest expansion is 5 cm. Perfect physical and mental health. No deformities to the body. No history of fits. No cardiovascular disease. 6/12 eyesight 6/24 for diploma holders) without glasses. With glasses, it should be 6/9 for one eye and 6/12 for the other. Should not have color blindness. There are two different exams, a written exam and a physical examination (PFT). Those who passed both are selected, but those who are declared as temporarily medically unfit will be asked to reappear in the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) for a later date. The PFT includes completing 16 km in 7 minutes, completing 20 squats continuously, and completing 20 push-ups. The salary of a Marine engineer (Artificer trainee officer) varies following their rank. But it is in the range of 21000 Indian rupees to 151100 Indian rupees per month. The higher your rank, the higher the pay is.
