ABOUT CERAMIC ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

Ceramic engineering is a branch of engineering that studies ceramics' properties, production, design, and usage. Ceramics include any article made from clay, glass, cement etc. While simple ceramic products can be made by heating and shaping clay, modern ceramics are made through highly specialized processes requiring high-tech equipment like computers and programs. The demand for these products has increased rapidly in recent years. It is expected to increase even further due to its artistic and mysterious appeal. What makes these products so popular is their highly personalized design, unlike most modern articles that are mass-produced and thus lack any connection with the customer. There is also because of its aesthetic and artistic value, and human appreciation of art is unlikely to die out anytime soon. This implies that the future holds high prospects for individuals involved in this craft and is essential for improving students' creativity.

WHAT IS CERAMIC ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY?

As said previously, ceramic engineering and tech deal with understanding the technology required to make Ceramics. Many specialized processes are needed to make a ceramic object from purifying raw material, making chemical compounds and creating an object by using them as its components and understanding its properties and composition. Due to their unique properties, these ceramic objects are also used in other engineering fields like chemical, mechanical, electrical etc. Thus, taking part in this course also gives you an option to learn about the different branches of engineering.

This course helps in polishing a student's problem solving and critical thinking skills by providing them with complex situations and allowing them to develop innovative solutions to these problems on their own. Maths and science are the primary subjects here. Cases based on mathematical models will be presented, which will help develop a student's mathematical aptitude and scientific inquiry. A student is also expected to review the products made and analyze their quality through surveys and tests.

The curriculum for this course includes Engineering maths, Engineering physics, and electrical engineering basics. Everything from basic ceramic practices to environmental studies communication skills is provided. Students will also be taught about different ceramic-making processes, like glass, polymer, cement. Heat is an essential aspect of ceramic making processes. So, students will be taught about High-temperature ceramic methods. Communication skills are essential to communicating your ideas. So instructions for foreign language courses are also given to students.

ELIGIBILITY AND CAREER IN CERAMIC ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

For Undergraduate in this field, a student must have passed Class 12 with a minimum of 50% aggregate. UG Course is of 4 years. For a Post Graduate course, the student must have completed Btech/BE from any recognized university in Mechanical/automobile/ceramic/electrical etc., with a minimum of 55-60%. The course is for two years.

The Jobs available are polymer chemist, ceramic designer, Ceramic technologist and ceramic research engineer. These fields are highly valued because these individuals can provide relevant skills of many engineering disciplines and so are often very highly paid and treasured.
