ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL GEOMATICS

Environmental Geomatics is a course that deals with the environment, its infrastructure and resource extraction opportunities. It's a two-year course in which students will be studying the knowledge required for spatial analysis of the environment and ways to utilize it. The course will also be teaching about courses of geography and remote sensing. This course will be perfect for students who can do hard work on construction, cartography, exploration, offshore engineering. These students will also be required to handle and analyze the data provided to them. Students who pass out from this course will be in huge demand in national or smaller bodies that engage in the analysis of land-based data and are responsible for land registration. In fields of aerospace, or IT industry-oriented towards logistics, planning, etc. Students who can acquire a good knowledge of environmental engineering will also be employed in private corporations, foreign companies, and NGOs.

WHAT IS ENVIRONMENTAL GEOMATICS?

As said, previously this course deals with the collection, organization, and analysis of land-based data collected through computer-based instruments and geo analytic tools. This course will primarily teach students about geography, cartography, geoscience, environmental science, and other engineering and science branches. This course will introduce students through a combination of theory, practical, research, and dissertation assignments.  Students will also be taught valuable concepts like GPS, machine learning, etc. This course is also called Geospatial innovation because it involves collecting and analyzing data and using it for innovative purposes. The course will equip the students with numerous skills which will be very beneficial to them in the long run in their careers. Some of the benefits of this course are: Students will be strengthened on their calculating skills to do mathematical calculations in their jobs. Next, students will be taught how to analyze big data, which will focus on their careers, problem-solving skills so they can take innovative decisions when required.

Logical thinking, IT skills, students' communication skills, dents, etc., will also be taught. Since this course is for two years, students will be conducted in a four-semester pattern. For the first semester, these students will be taught the following: Ecology and Natural resources, Remote Sensing, Image Interpretation, Basics of surveying, Cartography, and photogrammetry, Digital Image processing, Environmental Pollution and Thematic Mapping. After this, in the next semester, students are taught about Geographical Information Systems, Statistics, Digital photogrammetry, GNSS, Space Geodetic Techniques, Computer applications etc. In the third and fourth semesters, Seminars with various experts and project work will be done with the students.

ELIGIBILITY AND CAREER IN ENVIRONMENTAL GEOMATICS

This course is only available as a Post Graduate with a course duration of only two years. For this course, a student is required to have completed one of these courses with an aggregate of 50% as an Undergraduate degree in Civil engineering, Construction Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, or equivalent from a UGC university.

A graduate can get a job as Survey Technician, Database and Visualization Specialist, Survey Field Data Assistant, Assistant Land Surveyor, GIS Technician, Utility Coordinator, Survey Project Manager in various companies belonging to the sectors such as Academic Institutions, Natural Resource Management Boards, Environment Planning Boards, Local and Municipal Planning Development, Emergency Management, Military Commands Centres.
